About Us

At The Old School House Nursery we:

Encourage parents/carers to visit the group with their children prior to their admission date and offer children shorter mornings to enable them to become more familiar with routine and faces within the group.

Reassure parents/carers whose children seem to be taking a long time settling into the group. (Parents/carers are encouraged to phone mid morning if they wish to alleviate their own anxieties and should feel confident that the group will always contact them should their child become unwell or distressed.)

Encourage parents/carers, where appropriate, to separate from their children for brief periods at first, gradually building up to longer absences.

Make clear to families from the outset that they will be supported for as long as it takes to settle their child.

Introduce new families into the group on a staggered basis, rather than all at once.

Introduce flexible admission procedures, if appropriate, to meet the needs of individual families and children.

Children cannot play or learn successfully if they are anxious or unhappy. Our settling-in procedures aim to help parents/carers to help their children to feel comfortable in the group, to benefit from what it has to offer, and to be confident that their parents/carers will return at the end of the session.

For further information, please also take a look at our settling in policy.
